Terms of Service

Last updated 2026-08-25

Plain English, and short, because nobody reads the other kind. These are the terms you agree to by using TanStan.

What this app is

TanStan is a shared log for a dog’s day — what went in, what came out, and when the dog slept. It records what you tell it and states figures back to you. It is a notebook, not an authority.

It is not veterinary advice

Nothing in this app is advice about your dog’s health, and the app is built not to give any: it never says a number is good, bad, normal, high or low, and it does not compare your dog to any breed standard or growth chart. If something about your dog worries you, ask a vet. Do not delay doing so because a figure in here looked ordinary.

Your account

You need an account, and you must be old enough to agree to these terms where you live. Keep your password to yourself — anyone who can sign in as you can read and change everything your household has logged. You are responsible for what is done from your account.

Your household

A household is shared by design. Everyone in yours can read, edit and delete everything logged about your dog, including things you wrote. An invite code hands somebody that access, so give one out with the same care you would give a house key. Removing somebody takes their access away; it does not remove what they logged, because the log is the household’s rather than any one person’s.

What you write stays yours

Your log, your notes and your photos belong to you. You give permission to store them and show them to the people in your household, which is what makes a shared log work, and to nothing else. They are not used to train anything, not sold, and not shown to anybody outside your household.

What you may not do

Do not use the app to break the law, do not try to reach another household’s data, and do not attack, overload or reverse the service. Access can be withdrawn if you do.

Payment

The app is free at the time of writing. If paid features are added, they will be sold through Apple, priced before you are charged, and billed and refunded under Apple’s terms rather than these. Nothing you already log will be taken away or put behind a payment.

No promises about uptime

This is provided as it is. It is a small app with one developer and no on-call rota: it can be unavailable, it can lose an unsynced write, and it can be discontinued. Keep anything you cannot afford to lose somewhere else as well. To the extent the law allows, there is no liability for loss arising from using it, and any liability that cannot be excluded is limited to what you have paid.

Ending it

You can delete your account from Settings, under Your account, at any time. If somebody else is in your household, the shared history stays for them; if you are the only member, the household and its data are deleted with you. Access can also be withdrawn if these terms are broken.

Changes

These terms can change. When they do, the date at the top of this page changes with them and the change is listed under Latest updates. Continuing to use the app after that is how you accept the new version.

Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, United States.

Getting in touch

Email [email protected], or use Send feedback, in Settings under Support. Either reaches Ryan Schiller, the person who builds this app, and Send feedback works offline — anything written without signal is held on the phone and sent when there is some.
